/// UP TO THE CHALLENGE

At a time when women’s rights and opportunities are being challenged globally, the one-day Women in Power forum from WWD, Beauty Inc, and Footwear News will delve into the issues facing both women leaders in the industry and the female workforce in general, from the difficulties of work-life balance to the ongoing glass ceiling; how women leaders deal with such issues to the double standards facing female celebrities and entrepreneurs. Advances of the past are being eroded, and how can the fashion and beauty worlds help continue to push for advancement?

EDITOR'S LETTER

On Sept. 9 in Brooklyn, WWD, Footwear News and Beauty Inc will host "Women in Power: Up To The Challenge," bringing together executives across fashion, retail and beauty to talk about the biggest issues impacting women executives and creatives today.

The one-day event is being held at a critical time, when women’s rights are being threatened globally and the number of women chief executive officers at the largest 50 public and revenue-reporting companies in fashion, beauty and retail dipped slightly in 2024, to nine, or 18 percent, from 10, or 20 percent, in 2023.

In addition to analyzing the latest data on women leaders across the industry, executives and creatives will open their playbooks to share their tools for success in today's business world, including discussions about pathways to leadership, strategies for team building and brand building, the importance of health care and self-care, and more, as well as a celebration of the honorees on the fourth annual Women in Power list. Topics will include:

  • Building a brand that cuts through the noise;
  • Lifting up communities by design;
  • Putting together a winning team;
  • Running a company while prioritizing personal well-being;
  • Leading through tumultuous economic and geopolitical times;
  • Talking to employees about tough topics

Confirmed speakers include Dr. Elizabeth Comen, author of “All in Her Head” and associate professor, medicine, at NYU Langone/Grossman School of Medicine; Tiffany Dufu, president, Tory Burch Foundation and author of “Drop the Ball: Achieving More by Doing Less"; Kellie Fitzgerald, managing director, retail, Google; Erin and Sara Foster, cofounders of Favorite Daughter; Gabriela Hearst, creative director and founder of her eponymous brand; Maureen Kelly, CEO and founder of Tarte Cosmetics; Jane Lauder, chief data officer and executive vice president, enterprise marketing, at the Estée Lauder Cos.; Nicole Mason, president and founder of Future Forward Women; Helen Nwosu, vice president, social impact, Prose; Gena Smith, chief human resources officer for LVMH North America; Megan Streeter, chief marketing officer, Prose; Katie Welch, chief marketing officer, Rare Beauty, and Jennifer Wong, CEO, Aritzia.
