Letter from the Editor

There has been no shortage of change during the past few years as a result of the pandemic, and a significant amount of the pressure has been borne by women in the workforce, be it juggling working from home and family duties, to returning to office, not to mention the ongoing societal imbalances women face in terms of pay and advancement. For top female executives, all these pressures are in addition to those challenges also being faced by their male peers, from shifts in consumer shopping preferences to inflation, supply chain delays to staff shortages.

It has been a lot, and at WWD and FN's second annual Women in Power Forum, we celebrate female leaders in fashion, beauty and retail who are making an impact in their businesses and their communities. At this, the first IRL Women in Power gathering, they will share how they’ve navigated those challenges, while propelling their businesses into the future. Through that lens, it is clear that fashion’s female executives are tackling some of the biggest issues of our time: they are making sustainable business models work, changing long-held narratives around beauty, breaking barriers when it comes to inclusion, and championing the next generation.

The women on the 50 Most Powerful Women list are putting their power to good use. Please join us Sept. 13 to hear how.

About

The annual 50 Most Powerful Women list in WWD and FN highlights more of the women who are creating change at the highest level of fashion, beauty and footwear. The list is brought to life at the annual Women in Power forum spotlighting the achievements of women leaders and amplifying the conversation of mentorship.

Topics

  • The Renaissance Of Work: As women are finding new ways of revival, both of themselves and of their roles in the workforce, or outside of it, the global workforce must also undergo a rebirth of sorts. We examine how the pandemic upended so much and revealed lacking progress as a result of the imbalance of impact by gender.

  • Speaking Truth To Change: A discussion around how women have been vocal and more united around the realities of gender-based work-life balance and what real support for women in the modern workforce looks like.

  • Driving Cultural Sensitivity: As workforces demand greater cultural sensitivity, we will look at how women are leading the charge with success in the area, per a Google-sponsored study covered earlier this year.

  • Purposeful Versus Performative: An examination of what positive action looks like.

  • Achieving Accountability: Leadership discusses Setting Goals in an Era of Radical Transparency.

  • Next Gen Now: A look at guiding a new generation of female entrepreneurs and executives to success.

  • Creating Impact: We look for understanding how business impact can foster community impact.
