An experienced beauty executive, Jeanne Chavez has decades of ideating innovations in formulations and products, creating new categories, and dazzling with design and packaging. Her boundless creativity and her gut instinct identifying trends keep her ahead of the curve. With an innate sensibility for color and texture, Ms. Chavez has continued to elevate industry standards building identifiable, award-winning beauty brands from conception and incubation to global distribution and acquisition.
She partnered with Dineh Mohajer in 1995 and began a bold revolution with the launch of Hard Candy, a first of its kind brand that pushed boundaries in nails and cosmetics. Within a few years, she led Hard Candy to acquisition by LVMH, only the second American brand bought for their portfolio. Ms. Chavez was then sought out to develop Anastasia’s brand from specialized brow range to full color cosmetics. Next, she was recruited by celebrity dermatologist Dr. Harold Lancer to transition the basic Lancer Skincare items at his medical clinic into a global skincare system at retail.
Ms. Chavez resurrected her partnership with Ms. Mohajer in 2014 and conceived Smith & Cult, which was acquired by Luxury Brand Partners six years later. They continued their quest to break new ground with award-winning singer/songwriter Ashley Frangipane, a.k.a Halsey. Together they co-founded About-face in 2021, the multifaceted color cosmetics brand as unique, inclusive, and performance-driven as the artist. Built on the ethos of celebrating transformative self-expression and high-performance, they built easy-to-use, highly pigmented, and high-impact products for every face. About-face has received the Allure’s Best of Beauty three years in a row, Fast Company’s Brands That Matter in 2022, and the Next Award: Future 50 from Beauty Matter.
