Joshua Britton is Chief Executive Officer and Founder of San Diego-based company Debut. Debut uses cutting-edge biotechnology to bring novel, high-performing and sustainable ingredients to the cosmetic industry. Mr. Britton believes that the best way to deliver on the promise of biomanufacturing is to vertically integrate to product. Debut discovers, tests, and commercializes high-performing ingredients and products by incorporating them into valuable beauty products. In his role, Mr. Britton leads a rapidly growing multi-disciplinary team of 80 people, executing an aggressive commercialization strategy. To date, he has raised $70M for Debut from leading funds including BOLD, the venture capital fund of L’Oréal.
 
Mr. Britton is also an advisor to Cantos Ventures, a venture capital and private equity company that specializes in near-frontier technology.
 
Prior to Debut, he was trained as a scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he gained a postdoctoral in chemistry. He also earned a doctor of philosophy in organic chemistry from the University of California, Irvine and a master’s degree in organic chemistry from Nottingham University in the United Kingdom.
